The story behind sweet content

Before Sweet Content was born, I worked for an agency (one of the best in my opinion) that specialised in servicing larger clients, and I bloody loved it. My role focused primarily on content management, working closely with clients and their businesses to help them achieve big-picture goals through consistent, well-planned content.

At the same time, my husband owned a business called Beyond Physio Fitness. Watching that business try to manage its own social media was eye-opening.

Like many small to medium businesses, they’d go through bursts of motivation. For two or three weeks, the content would be great, on brand, on theme, genuinely valuable for their community, and often with strong engagement to match. I felt like a proud mother watching them nail it. But as soon as things got busy, social media was the first thing to fall away. (Needless to say, they eventually became a client of mine - we were the perfect fit for each other).

Suddenly, there would be gaps. Sometimes three or four months of silence. Then it would start again, maybe with a new approach and someone new in charge of posting. The intention was always good, but the outcome was always the same: inconsistent.

Beyond Physio Fitness wasn’t a huge business, but they did have a strong team with a loyal following. And still, the challenge remained. That’s when it really hit me, for small businesses, there was a massive gap between doing nothing and paying full agency fees.

So where do businesses go if they want to show up consistently online, who don’t have the capacity to do it themselves and can’t afford big agencies?...

Aaaaand welcome to the party — Sweet Content. I vividly remember sitting in a cafe with my husband Dave, on his lunch break. I was very pregnant at the time and we got to talking about what life would look like after the little one had arrived. We chatted about this idea of helping small businesses with their social media, next minute we’e hopped on to GoDaddy and bought the sweetcontent.co.nz domain name. 2019 was the year of firsts for me; my first business and my first kid. What a year it was (in the most fantastic way, of course)! 

I set out to help small businesses be consistent on social media with good looking content that had a purpose so they could reach an audience that they wouldn’t otherwise be able to access. I genuinely believe that posting on social media, whether that’s Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn, is incredibly important. But not every business needs a flashy campaign, a complex strategy or influencers. Often, what really matters is simply showing up week after week with the aim of serving a community.

Platforms like Facebook are especially important, where your customers go to find out what’s happening or changes that you’re making, or simply reassurance that you’re still in business and active. And the longer I’ve worked in this space, the more I’ve tweaked my services to suit the small business enterprise. 

Sweet Content serves the businesses that are too busy doing what they do best (fixing cars, manufacturing canvases, and servicing communities). And I help them to create a loyal following, keep in the forefront of people’s minds and stay consistent.

I love that I get to work with a variety of different businesses that not only work their butts off, but are the most genuine, customer-focused businesses I’ve come across.
